Moho Depth of Northern Baja California, Mexico, From Teleseismic Receiver Functions

چکیده

We estimated Moho depths from data recorded by permanent and temporary broadband seismic stations deployed in northern Baja California, Mexico, using the receiver function technique. This region is composed of two subregions contrasting geological topographical characteristics: Peninsular Ranges California (PRBC), a batholith with high elevations (up to 2,600 m); Mexicali Valley (MV) region, sedimentary environment close sea level. Crustal thickness derived P-to-S converted phases at 29 were analyzed three profiles: Two that cross subregions, ∼W-E direction, third one runs over PRBC N-S direction. For PRBC, vary 35 45 km, 33°N 32°N; 30 46 km depth 32°N 30.5°N. From profile crosses W-E direction; ∼34 under western eastern respectively; an abrupt change Main Gulf Escarpment (30°), ∼32 km; 17–20 MV. ∼ direction ∼31.5°N are ∼30 40 topography increases 0 m; became shallower (16 depth) as reaches California. These results show deeper related higher Escarpment, except for where not simply reflecting isostatic compensation.

Moho depth variation in southern California from teleseismic receiver functions

The number of broa.dband three-component seismic stations in southern California. has more tb an tripled recently. In th is study we use the teleseismic receiver function technique to determine the crustal thicknesses and Vp / Vs ratios for th ese stations and map out t he lateral variation of Moho dept h under southern California. It is shown t hat a. receiver function can provide a very good ...

moho depth and vp/vs variations in the kope dagh region from analysis of teleseismic receiver functions

in this study we use the p receiver function technique to determine the moho depth and vp/vs ratio for 8 short period stations of qochan and mashhad seismic networks and map the variations of moho depth under kope dagh region. it is shown that a receiver function can provide a relatively good point measurement of moho depth under a short period station. the crustal thickness estimated from the ...

Identifying recharge from tropical cyclonic storms, Baja California Sur, Mexico.

Groundwater in the Todos Santos watershed in southern Baja California, and throughout the peninsula south of latitude 28°N, has values of (δ18 O‰, δD‰) ranging between (-8.3, -57) and (-10.9, -78). Such negative values are uncharacteristic of the site latitude near the sea level. Altitude effects do not explain the isotope data. Tropical depressions originating along the Pacific coast of North ...

Crust and upper mantle of Kamchatka from teleseismic receiver functions

Teleseismic receiver functions (RFs) from a yearlong broadband seismological experiment in Kamchatka reveal regional variations in the Moho, anisotropy in the supra-slab mantle wedge, and, along the eastern coast, Ps converted phases from the steeply dipping slab. We analyze both radialand transverse-component RFs in bin-averaged epicentral and backazimuthal sweeps, in order to detect Ps moveou...
